There's a small refugee type camp that I'm in. Scrap metal from various buildings and planes had been recovered and turned into makeshift stores and houses. No matter where you were, nowhere in particular was truly a 'safe zone'. As long as you stay in your area you are, but as soon as you step even a single foot out of your camp, anything could happen. The creatures that would pop up were pretty bad, but the people who were able to thrive and roam around were the ones to fear most. Every few yards a random football field size terrain would be in any region. My camp was in a forest, and a few yards off was a sand patch with some randomly placed holes here and there, and a gigantic, 2-story tall dirt pile in the very center. then all around the patch, was more forest, except for the southern spot away from the sand grounds and the camp. There was about 2-300 yards of a clearing and a very old, vine-covered building.
I was in line for food and something to drink at our little camps kitchen. There weren't many people, but I decided to go off to the side and sit on a pile of black-colored dirt cuz I was feeling particularly lazy that morning. A couple friends, a boy and a girl, came over and we were all chatting and laughing away when the cook called us in. At this point, the cook called me into a room by myself. The lady herself was a bit tall, 5'9" maybe, she was also about my age and scrawny. She had long straight blonde hair and was wearing an actual chef outfit vs the clothes with a dirty apron like the others there. It was a poorly lit office type area. There was only a pile of filled black trash bags, almost set up to where it looked like a chair. She pulled out this almost glowing pink substance. "I made a new drink!" she said excitedly. "seriously?! you try it yet?!" I asked back just as excited. "yep! here!" she said grinning as she tossed it to me. For a moment her face didn't quite seem like her normal face, almost menacing, but it passed so quickly I thought maybe I was just seeing things. I stared at her for a moment quizzically. "what?'' she asked. I squinted my eyes then just shrugged. "nothing. bottoms up!" I said forcing a smile. It was only a tiny little vial, like the ones doctors use to draw blood, but as soon as I swallowed, everything started getting real blurry. All I could barely make out was the lady leaning forwards smiling before completely blacking out.
I came to finally. It seemed not too long of time had passed. The sun was high in the sky, it was probably somewhere between 11-1. When my head cleared a little more, I looked around. In front of me, was the building to the south of the camp and the 'sand trap' as it was called. I also came to this other realization. My hands had been tied behind my back, and I was leaning against a hovercraft. The outside was painted with great detail to reflect it's surroundings to be completely camouflaged. I spun around to look, and it's like I was staring at my camp off in the distance beyond the sandpit, except at the proximity I was I was, and the fact I had been leaning on it, you could see the bolts of the little carrier. A man came from around the corner and flashed a smile upon seeing me. 'oh so you're awake.' he said. He, like the woman, was tall, but he was a bit older. His dark brown hair was starting to gray here and there, but he was still very handsome. Yet, at the same time, I knew that was also part of the danger to him, he was in a black shirt, arctic colored camo pants, and black boots. He was also very well built. He walked over to me and easily picked me up off the ground by my arm. "let go have a little chat shall we" he said, cooly. The hovercraft, on the inside, was more like a camper on the inside. wide enough for two people to squeeze by each other, a kitchen set with a little stove, the fold out table and seats, a bed on one end, and the place for the driver to drive at the other.
He had me pinned against the table. I knew exactly what he wanted, and what he was mostly likely to do afterward. There was a knife he had stabbed into the table behind me, and my body acted instinctively to distract him of remembering this fact(we'll keep it as pg as possible in case of any young readers). I bumped him back a bit and got myself to sit on the table closer to the knife so cutting the rope off wouldn't be obvious. As I had quickly sat on the table and got it lined up perfectly within a whole second. I looked up with a 'well, come get me' look. He smirked and came closer. After a minute, i finally cut through the rope. I immediately shoved him back, drove my knee home, then bashed his head against the corner of the wall. As he fell to the ground, i ran outside, A couple of my friends happen to sneak outside the camp and had come around the corner. "run!" i said, grabbing their hands as i ran past them. I caught a glance behind me and the man was bolting out the door towards us. I knew there wasnt time to think, and the only thing i knew that would have the highest success rate for survival was to run through the sand pit. "RUN!" i screamed, my friends were close behind me, i was headed for the dirt mound. "what are you-?!" one began, "dont go near the holes!" i said cutting him off and still running. We were about halfway to the mound when the ground began to shake. Large tentacles popped through the hole, and new holes were now being formed as it broke through new ground. As we made it to mound, i began climbing, frantic at this point, wondering if i made the right decision to cross through here. At that moment, I heard a scream from a male voice. My friends climbed passed me as i looked behind me, but the man was gone. I continued climbing, and sat next to my two friends. The tentacles were slowly descending back into the ground, and we sat there facing the camp, watching the sun set.
I'm back at camp, I had snuck off back to the kitchen. The lady was sitting on her 'chair' looking at me curiously. Her eyes read 'what did you come back for?'. I looked away and grabbed my left arm nervously. "you have anymore of that drink?'' i mumbled, looking slightly past her at the wall. She flashed a smile. "i'll need a couple more ingredients to make it" she said with a fox like smile.
